Botvinov prefers Oslo
Austrian Mikhail Botvinov is to og the Birkebeiner this year. I don’t
think this is good, they former Russian says, that would rather finish
the WC-season in Holmenkollen. I think a Norwegian will win, and it
might be Erling Jevne who goes his last WC-race ever.

Last
race this year
The World Cup Finale is this year from Rena to Lillehammer in the
well known Birkebeiner-tracks. Mikhail Botvinov is one of many World Cup
participants who is going the the race and do his best to stay among the
best. He don’t think any Norwegian will win the World Cup at the moment.
But he thinks a Norwegian will be on top of the podium after winning the
Birkebeiner. Erling Jevne is going his last race in his career and
everybody wants him to finish with a victory in the Birkebeiner.
Total
World Cup
With
last weekends races in Holmenkollen Thomas Alsgaard has shortened the
gap to Per Elofsson as leader of the World Cup and created a new thrill.
Even though Alsgaard is on a hard attac, Botvinov don’t think the
Norwegian will manage to beat Elofsson in the total World Cup. The Swede
has been superior at times, even though the Norwegians started the
season with 8 straight victories.
End the
season with the Birkebeiner
- I
think it’s a shame that the season is ending this way. A lot of the
free-style experts is not competing, a thing that wasn’t supposed to be
in a finale, Botvinov says. The finale should have taken place in Oslo
as before. That has been a success and friendly to the competitors so
that everybody no matter of style can compete.
This
years season
Botvinov is well satisfied with the Olympics in Salt Lake City. The
season didn’t start that good. I had some injuries and operated my knee
quite early in the season, Mikhail Botvinov concludes.
