Only Swede, but an offensive one....

Birken.no met a Per Eloffson hungry for victory before he is going from Rena to Lillehammer tomorrow. He has a difficult job, and there are no support from his countrymen. He is the only Swede starting in the Elite Class. The Swedish runners has chosen to participate in the National Swedich Championship. He cannot expect any help from the Norwegians either, his Norwegian coach Magnar Dalen says. They will support Thomas Alsgaard.

Optimistic swede before the start.

Erling Jevne has an advantage
For Elofsson to win the World Cup he has to be at least 9th if Thomas Alsgaard wins. The Eliteracers don’t have to carry a backpack, but the mass-start gives the eliteracers a special challenge.

Magnar Dalen thinks both Erling Jevne and Odd-Bjørn Hjelmeseth have advantages because they have had better preperations than other participants. Birken.no has had interviews with several racers that are tired now the season is ending.

Dalens foresights and tactics

·         Jevne goes out at max-speed. If Alsgaard follows he is going to win.

·         Elofsson must not use the same tactics as during the Olypics. There he train to follow Mühlegg who was drugged. That exhausted him totally.

·         Elofsson has to focus on Alsgaard, not Jevne

·         The finish will be dramatic and cannot be compared with an ordinary skirace. Elofsson has in previous season had various shape in the end of the season. This is something his trainer Dalen fears.

Elofssons own considirations
Birken.no meet a hungry Per Elofsson on Trudvang Hotel in Rena. He tells us that his ambitions are large in front of tomorrows race, and he hopes he can defend his position in the World Cup.

Per Elofsson thinks he can get competition from among others, Jevne. This because he has raced the Birkebeiner many times before, and this is an advantage for him. But Elofsson has prepared himself for the track and had been out training in it today.

Sickness not a problem for an exciting ending
Elofsson thinks he is in shape again after having several colds the last couple of weeks. But he don’t think that will be a problem for the race.

It seems that we’re going to get an exciting World Cup ending. Nothing is left to accidents. Tomorrow the reality face the competitors in the Birkebeiner 2002.
