Kristen Skjeldal looking forward to the Birkebeiner

Kristen Skjeldal is going his first Birkebeiner. He is looking forward to the WC Finsishrace, but think it’s going to be a hard competition, especially among the Norwegians. Skjeldal is recovering after the 50km in Holmenkollen, where he came in second after Thomas Alsgaard.

Nå ser han fram til å gå Birkebeinerrennet for første gang. Fram til lørdag skal han ta det med ro, men prøve å få unnagjort et par rolige turer.

- It’s all about gathering surplus. It’s all about eating and drinking well, Skjeldal says. He is going to try to bite the competitors backs. He count on Erling Jevne to be a hard competitor since he a very experienced Birkebeiner.

My goal is the hang on as long as possible . Kristen is counted to be one of the challengers. Even though he trying to do his best, there are a lot of good competitors. He mention the Estian Verpalu and the 50Km Goldmedal Winner from the Olympics, Ivanov. As well as all the Norwegians and the Swede Elofsson. There are a lot who wants to share in on the victory.

Little cooperation..
Skjeldal thinks it will be hard for the Norwegians to work together since this is an individual race. A cooparation as they do on bicycle we won’t see here, even though Thomas winning he can win the total World Cup. – Thomas really wants to win because of the World Cup and Erling really wants this last victory. We might try to cooperate but I think everybody wants to do their best to win, Skjeldal thinks.

He thinks its an exciting thought to put in a tour-race in the World Cup. Especially one like the Birkebeiner. – That is positive, Skjeldal says.

Questions Mühlegg
Drugs has been a hot topic the last period of time, and Johan Mühlegg has said he will go to court to get back his 50km Olympic Gold. Kristen is questioning this. – I don’t understand who he can argument in such a trial, he says.

A lot of good memories
There are a lot of great moments of sports Skjedal remembers. – It’s hard to put events up to another. My best prestation has to be 30km freestyle in the World Cup Lahti in 1991, and the Gold Medal on relay in Salt Lake City. And it was really fun when my local team Bulken won the relay in the Norwegian Championship. Kristen is generally satisfied with his Olympic prestations.
